Pricing a roof from a description is guesswork, because a brown mark on a landing ceiling can be fed by water entering a metre or two away. It might be creeping down a rafter from a cracked valley, slipping behind tired lead at the chimney, or condensing in a cold loft on a winter night. That is why every price we give comes after a visit, and why the pictures we send were shot on your own slopes that same morning.
Three ways to start: the enquiry form on this page, a call to 01903 299063, or a WhatsApp message to +44 7880 284133. The WhatsApp button on every page opens a short form that writes the message for you. Whichever you pick, what happens next is the same.
01
Details worth sending with your enquiry
None of these are compulsory, but each one helps us turn up prepared.
- Postcode or street. It tells us about parking, ladder access and whether a conservation area might be involved.
- The symptom and its timing. Does it drip only in driving rain, show up only after a gale, or stay damp all week? How long has it been going on?
- A rough idea of the roof. Tiles, slate or flat felt; a bungalow, a semi, or a tall Victorian terrace. Guesses are welcome.
- Pictures taken safely. From the garden, the pavement or an upstairs window is ideal. Please stay off ladders and off the roof.
- History. Patches someone has already done, a buyer's survey that flagged the roof, or an insurer you have already spoken to.
If water is coming through right now, lead with that. We prioritise leaks and storm damage. An open roof gets weathered in first; quotes and options can wait a day.
02
On the day of the survey
Outside, we check the covering and every junction on it. On a pitched roof we walk the ridge line, the hips at each corner, the verges at the gable edges, the valleys where two slopes meet, and the flashings sealing roof to wall or stack. Flat sections get their membrane, the upstands, the outlets and the trims. Inside, where there is a hatch we can reach, we look at the loft for staining, daylight and damp timber.
The aim is to trace the water to its starting point, not to stop at the first broken tile. As we work we take pictures, and those come to you later alongside the price, so the slipped slate or split felt is there on your screen rather than described over a cup of tea.
Repair, or a new roof
We advise the least invasive job that will actually cure it. A sound roof with one failed detail gets a repair quote. A covering that is worn out across the board gets a replacement quote, with the pictures showing why patching would be money wasted.
03
The written price that follows
After the visit, a written quote reaches you carrying a single figure: one total for the recommended job. Alongside the price it describes in everyday language what will be done, what goes on the roof, and how it will be secured against coastal gales, such as ridge and verge fixing to BS 5534 rather than relying on mortar by itself.
If you are weighing up several roofers, look at whether each figure includes VAT, and whether scaffold hire is in it or extra. The things that set a roofing price are access, the covering, the area involved and what turns up during the survey; our roofing costs page lists our guide prices and typical UK ranges from published guides. Our pricing is good and fair; what is printed on that quote is what you pay for that scope.
Permissions and paperwork
Where Building Regulations approval applies, for instance a re-roof above the Planning Portal thresholds, we tell you and deal with the building control notification ourselves. For a listed building, or a street covered by an Article 4 direction, we point out what to raise with the council's planning team first.
04
Cooling-off if you accept at home
Say yes to us across your kitchen table and the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 treat it as an off-premises deal, which gives you 14 days to change your mind with no reason needed. Want us to begin sooner than that? Put the request in writing, by letter or email. Should you cancel after we have begun, you pay only for the share of the work already carried out.
One exception applies. When you called us out specifically to carry out urgent repairs, that urgent work falls outside the cancellation right, though anything extra agreed during that visit stays inside it. Full wording is in our terms and conditions.
05
Once the roofers have gone
Skips, offcuts and old tiles leave with us, and the drive is swept. We talk you through what was done, with pictures of any detail hidden from ground level. For what happens if a problem shows up later, read the our guarantee page; if something has gone wrong, our complaints procedure sets out how we put it right.
